The
existence of buying groups was first born out of the understanding that
independents needed greater power to stand up to, and compete against the
national wholesalers.
The
need for buying groups is unquestionable, but for the very reason why groups
first established themselves, small to medium sized independent wholesalers,
In
1984, Victor (Lon) Westwood decided to form a brand new buying group, one that
would be aimed at the small to medium sized independents. MIDA was therefore
born on 1st October 1984 with four members who were all given assurances that
their investment and commitment would be rewarded within the first year on their
association. Out of modest offices in Kings Norton, Birmingham, MIDA began to
develop rapidly demonstrating it's commercial belief that the company enables
single independents to achieve uncommon results by utilising the strengths of
all associates.
Since
it's inception, MIDA has relocated it's central offices several times within the
Midlands region. It still acknowledges the importance in maintaining head
offices which are central to it's distribution network. Today all MIDA
operations are governed from it's offices at Bordesley Hall, Alvechurch,
Birmingham, England.
